BPA and OTEC Deliver $132,000 Check to Elgin Boise Cascade
Elgin, OR – April 2, 2010 - Oregon Trail Electric Cooperative (OTEC) is taking advantage a new Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) energy conservation program designed to assist industrial members with increasing cost-effective energy efficiency savings. The first industrial member to benefit from this newest program is OTEC’s largest member Boise Cascade.
BPA representative Tom Osborn and OTEC Member Services Representative Nancy Van Sickle presented Boise Cascade with an incentive check of $132,591.50.
The BPA funded Energy Smart Industrial (ESI) program is a primary means for BPA utility customers like OTEC to achieve industrial energy savings. BPA conservation engineers work closely with an engineering consulting firm that then works with OTEC Member Service Representatives to identify projects that achieve energy savings for our industrial members.
The Elgin Boise Cascade project garnered 779,950 kWh energy savings (annually), resulting in the incentive of $132,591.50. “Another positive of this incentive is that OTEC was able to submit this amount to BPA for total reimbursement,” says Steve Schauer, OTEC Manager of Member Services.
Before the implementation of this program, OTEC was already working with their industrial members and offering custom projects that provided incentives to implement energy saving measures. “We look forward to this new partnership, which adds another tool for OTEC to promote energy efficiency,” suggests Schauer.
